Gary Bye has thirty years of experience in golf course architecture, landscape architecture and planning.  He is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and a Registered Landscape Architect in California and Arizona.  Mr. Bye’s design experience includes work throughout the United States with international projects in Mexico, Kuwait, Korea, and France.

While working with David Rainville, ASGCA, Mr. Bye has had responsibilities on numerous projects including Castle Pine Country Club outside of Seoul, Korea, Yucaipa Valley Golf Club in Yucaipa, California and for the planning of a golf course on the Class III landfill owned by the BKK Corporation in West Covina, California.  Mr. Bye’s recent completed projects include the redesign of Montebello Golf Course in Montebello, California, Mission Hills of Hayward, Hayward, California, the new 18-hole expansion and redesign of the existing course at Mile Square Golf Course in Fountain Valley, California, the remodel of San Clemente Golf Course, and the new Ashwood Golf Course in Apple Valley, California.

Mr. Bye’s first professional experience after completing undergraduate school was working in the Chicago office of Lawrence Packard, now a Fellow in the American Society of Golf Course Architects.  Mr. Bye was involved with all aspects of golf course architecture including design, construction documents, and field observation.  Mr. Bye had significant involvement in Lake Barrington Shores Golf Course, in Barrington, Illinois and Minocqua Golf Club in Minocqua, Wisconsin.

Following Mr. Bye’s initial work in golf course architecture, he gained valuable experience in master planning, landscape architecture and park design.  While a planner with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management, Mr. Bye was responsible for the design, preservation, and enhancement of state parks and environmentally sensitive lands.  Working with Pod, Inc. of Santa Ana, California, Mr. Bye completed a number of large scale projects that required the coordination of many design professionals and preparation of landscape construction documents.  For eight years before joining David Rainville, Mr. Bye was Vice President with Florian Martinez Associates, Inc., a planning and landscape architecture firm specializing in mixed use land planning projects, including master planned golf course communities

Mr. Bye received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois in 1976 and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1979.  Mr. Bye has been an instructor of landscape design at Radcliffe College and the University of California at Los Angeles.
