Mahin Mojtahedzadeh (Mahin), 74, a citizen of Iran, pleaded guilty today to exporting gas turbine parts from the United States to Iran.
Mahin was the President and Managing Director of ETCO-TZC (ETCO), which was an export company with an office in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The company was a supplier of spare and replacement turbine parts for power generation companies in the Middle East, including Iran.
Between 2013 and 2017 she worked with companies in Canada and Germany to evade (and violate) US sanctions against Iran. The two companies purchased parts costing over $3 million from a distributor in New York and then had them delivered to their offices. Once they received the parts, they then re-shipped them to ETCO’s customers in Iran. It is a violation to export or reexport any US origin turbine parts to Iran without an Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC) license…which was never obtained for these shipments.
Mahin faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine and will be sentenced on November 12, 2019.
